A 72-year-old man, whose body was found Monday near Hilo International Airport, died of natural causes, according to police.

The homeless man’s body was found under a shelter about 80-100 feet south of Kekuanaoa Street and a half-mile east of Kanoelehua Avenue. Police described the body as being in an “advanced stage of decomposition.”

He was identified through fingerprints. Police were withholding his name until his family is notified.

Another decomposing body was found Tuesday morning off Saddle Road.

Lt. Gregory Esteban said those cases are not related.

“At this point, we don’t suspect foul play,” he said.

Esteban said the second body belongs to an adult and was found outside a truck located off an unpaved trail on an old section of the road near mile marker 15.

He said the truck wasn’t visible from the highway and the body might have been there for more than two weeks.

An autopsy in that case will be held Friday.
